OUR STORY

Whimsy Creative Studio was born out of a shared love for community, art, and a little bit of playful chaos. Our journey started during the COVID years when we met Lori while working on the HoopBus, which was a school bus converted into a basketball nonprofit that was based in Venice Beach.

Visiting Lori’s home was like stepping into a wonderland—bright pink, yellow, and blue walls, with a garden full of whimsical metal characters hand-crafted and painted from neighborhood scrap metal.

After collaborating for a few years, Lori was on the verge of selling her old golf cart when an idea struck Kelley and Dan: What if we turned it into a disco cart instead? Lori was all in.

From her backyard art studio, Whimsy Creative Studio was officially born. Today, we bring custom, whimsical vehicles and artistic creations to life, turning everyday functional objects into unforgettable works of art.

We’re In Voyage LA

Extremely grateful to be featured in Voyage LA Magazine discussing the intersection of community art, micro-mobility, and creative engineering! 🪩⚡

What started as a workshop project upcycling a 2002 Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) with bicycle rims and glass mirror tiles has grown into a full-scale mobile activation platform bringing high-energy experiences to brand launches, street festivals, and peaceful local gatherings across Venice Beach.

In the interview, we discuss:

• Scaling mobile operations from our early days with Hoopbus

• Overcoming custom vehicle hardware and sound-system engineering challenges

• How Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) can transform local transit into artistic, community-centered experience
